I had the impression that Metro buses checked in occasionally (as they pass
close-range receiving infrastructure), and OBA provides estimates based on
the latest data.

For Community Transit, OBA uses schedules. C/T is upgrading their
infrastructure to make real-time data available (using GPS and presumably
cellular telecommunication).

I haven't heard anything about Sound Transit, but the 522 seems to be
tracked in near-real time. See attached screen shot for the Vehicle Info
screen from the iPhone app. You can see that the data is just a couple
minutes old. It is typically within 2 minutes of current time for this
route.

In my experience, OBA does not adjust estimates based on history. The 09:14
522 is invariably several minutes early at my Lake City stop.

I'm gonna bet live data. But more than anything, I'm interested in the
answer, and anything else about the subject (or similar subjects).
Thanks,
Ross
P. S. This subject might get me out to a SeaJug (or other) meeting. But
probably not in the summer (or a splendid early Spring day). It is just too
nice out there right now to spend time indoors.

Hey. Maybe you can help settle a long standing bet I have with George
Smith.
For bus tracking, does One Bus Away use live data, estimates, or both?
I don’t recall if you’ve ever given a demo or presentation of that work.
