I truly and deeply dislike NTP. It's a solution for a problem it can never fix, and the HTTP 1.0 spec had a better solution before most people had ever heard of NTP. Namely, any time I tell you a time stamp, I will also tell you what time I think it is, and you can work out the clock skew before you make any decisions.

The thread does point out that most NTP clients make lots of small adjustments, so the JVM may be sluggish, but it won't stall entirely.
